Home / Garage Door Safety: What Homeowners Should Avoid
A garage door is a large moving system with components that can be under significant tension. Some observations are reasonable for homeowners; repairs involving springs, cables or unstable doors deserve extra caution.
Stop and Call for Help When
- A spring is visibly broken
- A cable is loose, frayed or broken
- The door is crooked or has left the track
- The door is hanging or unstable
- Movement is violent, jerky or unpredictable
Avoid Bypassing Safety Features
If the door refuses to close, do not defeat or permanently bypass photo-eye safety systems simply to make it operate. See sensor repair and door won't close.
